Patience needed

As we age we tend to look back on our lives and reminise our history and memories resurface. When working with the aged or even aged family members this may mean hearing the same story over and over again. This is the case with my mother, now 83, who has taken to apologising for telling the same stories over and over again. And I say to her, like I say to the aged people I visit, tell me !!! I am hear to listen. Yes the story doesn’t change and yes I could recite it backwards but it’s your life and your time and your happiness so your memories and life history are important to me. Many aged people don’t get the chance to talk to others regularly and this is a very sad state of affairs. Many aged people aren’t given the time by others, because we live in a very busy world and have many pressures on us. It upsets me that our beautiful aged people are not being heard, are not being given the time to talk and relive their happy and sometimes sad times. Because if we can’t communicate our stories it’s like we don’t exist anymore. So please if an aged person is telling you their oft repeated memory take the time to listen, to share their life with them and hopefully a patient person will do the same for you when you’re an aged person too!
