Happy New Year

Well 2020 , the year of way too much sorrow , illness and death is over. Here’s hoping 2021 is a lot better, a lot healthier and a lot safer for us all globally. Did you make any New Years resolutions for 2021 or are you just happy to be alive and (if living in Australia) mostly free of the horrible Covid nightmare?

New Years resolutions have an interesting history (way back in Babylonian times apparently) and and New Years celebrations/traditions are different depending on your cultural and religious background. Have you had any luck in past years with resolutions made or did they wither away in the first few weeks of the new year?

My father didn’t make NY ‘s resolutions that I know of but he insist that Christmas decorations came down on NYE so as not to bring the old year into the new. I have carried on this tradition in my own home. And so a little bit of dad carries on through me and through this tradition and so does his memory.

Did you think of your perhaps deceased aged loved ones this NYE (mine certainly did) and do your NY resolutions include a commitment to spending more time with your still living aged loved ones – either virtually or in person if you can? I’m not making any resolutions (mine certainly don’t last all that often) but I will be making a concerted effort not only through AFFVS but in my personal life and in my local community to socially connect and consider the needs of the aged people around me. Why? well one day that shall be me too, being old, if I’m lucky. And by setting an example now this may influence how the younger generations behave to their elders. So come join me this 2021 and make the life of an aged person a little bit happier and lastly from me to you and yours - Happy New Near and may all your hopes and dreams come true !!
