For the love of Grandparents

They come in many shapes and sizes, are rich or poor, from different nationalities, are single or married or widowed, young and old. I’m of the young variety having become a grandma at 40. Yet no matter the age or gender or appearance grandparents do soo much for their loved ones. Through my years as a social worker I have seen grandparents raise their grandchildren when their own offspring can’t and seen the selflessness these loving figures have given to the little ones they care about. Many grandparents have special relationships with their grandchildren, being that bit removed (mostly) from having to do the responsible part of raising a child and having the great joy of filling the little terrors with choccies and then send them home advantage. And as I get older I have more respect for my own parents for their rearing of me and the help they gave 2 generations with being a parent/grandparent too. I can also say from experience that not being close to your grandchildren or your children (even as adults ) is very difficult and you miss them greatly. The phone calls and facetime I have with my child, grandchild and my remaining parent helps but nothing beats that face to face time and building of family memories. So if your aging parent or grandparent or aging relative of any kind is in Albany or close by, AFFVS would love to visit them on your behalf and show them that you may not be there but you are thinking of them, because you do care and are offering my company of their behalf. This I see as my privilege😊.
